Cubanoptila longiscapa was named by Wichard (2007). Its type specimen is SMNS Do-5712, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (SMNS coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
