Gonodactylus was named by Berthold (1827) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Gonodactyloidea, Gonodactylidae.
It was assigned to Squillidae by Glaessner (1969); to Stomatopoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gonodactylidae by Schram (2010).
