Avitelmessus grapsoideus
Taxonomy
Avitelmessus grapsoideus was named by Rathbun (1923). Its type specimen is USNM 31895, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 3452, Cape Fear River near Hudler's Landing, which is in a Maastrichtian marine horizon in the Peedee Formation of North Carolina. It is the type species of Avitelmessus.
