Archaeogeryon was named by Colosi (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi]. It is not extant. Its type is Archaeogeryon fuegianus.

It was assigned to Geryonidae by Frassinetti and Covacevich (1999); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Macropipidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
