Archaeogeryon was named by Colosi (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi]. It is not extant. Its type is Archaeogeryon fuegianus.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Geryonidae by Frassinetti and Covacevich (1999), Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006), Karasawa et al. (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Luque et al. (2017).
