Taxonomy
Hepatiscus schweinfurthi was named by Noetling (1885). Its type specimen is SMNS 67861, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Hemsut.

It was recombined as Hemsut schweinfurthi by Feldmann et al. (2011) and Karasawa et al. (2019).
