Bylgia was named by Munster (1839) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-l Sepkoski's reference number: 75]. It is not extant. Its type is Bylgia spinosa.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Penaeidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
