Cancrixantho was named by Van Straelen (1934) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp]. It is not extant. Its type is Cancrixantho pyrenaicus.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Carcineretidae by Schweitzer et al. (2003), Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006), Karasawa et al. (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2021).
