Taxonomy
Chasmocarcinus was named by Rathbun (1898) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Chasmocarcinidae, Chasmocarcininae.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Goneplacidae by Feldmann et al. (2003); and to Chasmocarcininae by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
