Chlorodiella was named by Rathbun (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi R]. It is extant. Its type is Cancer niger. It is the type genus of Chlorodiellinae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Chlorodiellinae by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Xanthidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006), Ahyong et al. (2007) and de Angeli and Alberti (2015).
