Cycloprosopon was named by Lorenthey and Beurlen (1929) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith]. It is not extant. Its type is Pithonoton (Cycloprosopon) typicum.

It was reranked as Pithonoton (Cycloprosopon) by Lorenthey (1929).

It was assigned to Pithonoton by Lorenthey (1929); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Goniodromitidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2012).
