Enoplonotus was named by Milne-Edwards (1860) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Enoplonotus armatus.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Portunidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
