Eryon was named by Desmarest (1822) [Sepkoski's age data: J m K Nc]. It is not extant. Its type is Eryon cuvieri. It is the type genus of Eryonoidea, Eryonidae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eryonidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Feldmann et al. (2013).
