Taxonomy
Glyphithyreus was named by Macleay (1838) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Eo-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Glyphithyreus formosus.
It was assigned to Carcinoplacinae by Squires (1984); to Goneplacidae by Feldmann et al. (1995) and Feldmann et al. (1998); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eucratopsinae by Fraaije et al. (2007), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2016).
