Taxonomy
Portunites sylviae was named by Quayle and Collins (1981). Its type specimen is BMNH In.61713, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Horizon J, Christchurch Bay (Quayle collection), which is in a Bartonian coastal claystone in the Becton Formation of the United Kingdom.
