Taxonomy
Holcocarcinus was named by Withers (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l T Eo-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Holcocarcinus sulcatus.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Carpiliidae by Schweitzer (2003), Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2018).
