Iphiculus was named by Adams and White (1848) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R Sepkoski's reference number: 966]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Iphiculidae.
It was assigned to Leucosiidae by Morris and Collins (1991); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Philyrinae by Collins et al. (2003); and to Iphiculidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Karasawa et al. (2019).
