Taxonomy
Lecythocaris was named by Von Meyer (1858) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Prosopon paradoxum. It is the type genus of Lecythocaridae.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lecythocaridae by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Franţescu (2011) and Schweitzer et al. (2012).
