Taxonomy
Litogaster was named by Von Meyer (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Tr Anis]. It is not extant. Its type is Litogaster obtusa. It is the type genus of Litogastroidae.

It was assigned to Crustacea by Kuhn (1939); to Glypheidae by De Grave et al. (2009) and Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Litogastroidae by Karasawa et al. (2012).
