Taxonomy
Litogaster was named by von Meyer (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Tr Anis]. Its type is Liogaster obtusa. It is the type genus of Litogastroidae.
It was assigned to Crustacea by Kuhn (1939); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Glypheidae by Förster (1967), Glaessner (1969), De Grave et al. (2009) and Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Litogastroidae by Karasawa et al. (2013), Feldmann et al. (2015) and Smith et al. (2022).
