Taxonomy
Zanthopsis peytoni was named by Stenzel (1934) [Stenzel also named Zanthopsis peytoni var. parva, but this name is assumed to be equal to Zanthopsis peytoni.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Weches L1: Navasota River, Leon County, TX, which is in a Lutetian marine marl in the Weches Formation of Texas.
