Taxonomy
Macrocheira was named by De Haan (1839) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R]. It is extant. Its type is Maja kaempferi. It is the type genus of Macrocheiridae.
It was assigned to Inachinae by Karasawa (1993) and Schweitzer and Feldmann (1999); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Inachidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Nyborg et al. (2016) and Schweitzer et al. (2020); and to Macrocheiridae by Ferratges et al. (2023).
