Myrmica paradoxa was named by Radchenko et al. (2007). Its type specimen is GZG.BST.27.199, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Bitterfeld amber, Kutscher collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Germany.
