Martinocarcinus was named by Bohm (1922) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Martinocarcinus ickeae. It is the type genus of Martinocarcinidae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Xanthoidea by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); and to Martinocarcinidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2022).
