Mesodromilites was named by Woodward (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi K Ceno]. It is not extant. Its type is Necrocarcinus glaber.

It was assigned to Dromiidae by Glaessner (1969); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Homolodromioidea by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Dromiacea by Schweitzer et al. (2012).
