Taxonomy
Phytophtirites disodilis was named by Pampaloni (1902). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Fiuminello torrent, northeast of Melilli, which is in a Tortonian pond lignite in the Carlentini Formation of Italy. It is the type species of Phytophtirites.
