Microcorystes was named by Fritsch (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni T Mi-m]. Its type is Microcorystes latifrons.

It was assigned to Pithonotinae by Glaessner (1969); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Homolodromioidea by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Goniodromitidae by Schweitzer et al. (2012).
