Micromithrax was named by Noetling (1881) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo T Mi]. It is not extant. Its type is Micromithrax holsatica.

It was assigned to Brachyura by Noetling (1881); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Majidae by Feldmann et al. (2003); and to Corystidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
