Taxonomy
Montezumella was named by Rathbun (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l T Ol-u]. Its type is Montezumella tubulata. It is the type genus of Montezumellidae, Montezumelloidea.
It was assigned to Atelecyclinae by Quayle and Collins (1981); to Atelecyclidae by Rathbun (1930), Via (1970) and Beschin et al. (1994); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Cheiragonidae by Portell and Collins (2002), Schweitzer et al. (2006) and Schweitzer et al. (2010); to Cheriagonidae by Beschin et al. (2012) and Luque et al. (2017); and to Montezumellidae by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2019), Ossó and Domínguez (2019) and Ossó and Domínguez (2021).
