Pseudofusulina was named by Dunbar and Skinner (1931) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse-l P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 146]. It is the type genus of Pseudofusulinidae.

It was assigned to Pseudofusulinidae by Leven (1992); to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); to Schwagerininae by Loeblich and Tappan (1984) and Ueno et al. (2006); to Schwagerinidae by Forke (2002), Kobayashi and Altiner (2008) and Huang et al. (2009); and to Pseudofusulininae by Ueno et al. (2005), Ueno et al. (2009), Ueno et al. (2011) and Zhang et al. (2013).
