Orthakrolophos was named by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2001). Its type is Palaeograpsus depressus.
It was corrected as Orthakrolophus by Collins (2002).
It was assigned to Goneplacidae by Collins (2002); to Chasmocarcinidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); and to Chasmocarcininae by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2001), Karasawa and Kato (2003), Collins et al. (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2022).
It was corrected as Orthakrolophus by Collins (2002).
It was assigned to Goneplacidae by Collins (2002); to Chasmocarcinidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); and to Chasmocarcininae by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2001), Karasawa and Kato (2003), Collins et al. (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2022).
