Nucilobus was named by Morris and Collins (1991) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio Sepkoski's reference number: 966]. Its type is Nucilobus symmetricus.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Ebaliinae by Collins et al. (2003); to Leucosiidae by Morris and Collins (1991) and Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Leucosioidea by Karasawa et al. (2019).
