Taxonomy
Ocypode was named by Weber (1795) [Sepkoski's age data: Q Plei R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Ocypodidae, Ocypodoidea, Ocypodinae.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Ocypodinae by Garassino et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Ocypodidae by Guérin (1832), Casadio et al. (2005) and Luque et al. (2017).
