Taxonomy
Magyarcarcinus was named by Schweitzer and Karasawa (2004). Its type is Palaeograpsus loczyanus. It is the type genus of Magyarcarcinidae.
It was assigned to Goneplacinae by Schweitzer and Karasawa (2004) and Beschin et al. (2010); to Goneplacidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Beschin et al. (2013) and Beschin et al. (2016); and to Magyarcarcinidae by Domínguez and Ossó (2016) and Schweitzer et al. (2022).
It was assigned to Goneplacinae by Schweitzer and Karasawa (2004) and Beschin et al. (2010); to Goneplacidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Beschin et al. (2013) and Beschin et al. (2016); and to Magyarcarcinidae by Domínguez and Ossó (2016) and Schweitzer et al. (2022).
