Ozius was named by Milne-Edwards (1834) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Oziidae.
It was assigned to Menippinae by Karasawa (1990) and Karasawa (1993); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Ozinae by Dana (1851) and Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); and to Oziidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2020).
