Palaeastacus was named by Bell (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine-l K Turo]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaeastacus sussexiensis.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Erymidae by Rathbun (1935), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Feldmann et al. (2015), Hyzny et al. (2015) and Devillez et al. (2016).
