Gastrioceras suessi was named by Karpinsky (1889). It is the type species of Uraloceras.
It was recombined as Paragastrioceras suessi by Popow (1970); it was recombined as Uraloceras suessi by Ruzhentsev (1956), Leonova (2002) and Kutygin and Biakov (2015).
