Palaeopalinurus was named by Bachmayer (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: J u]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaeopalinurus glaessneri.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palinuridae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2015).
