Taxonomy
Palaeophoberus was named by Glaessner (1932) [Sepkoski's age data: J m]. It is not extant. Its type is Stenochirus suevicus.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Chilenophoberidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Stenochiridae by Karasawa et al. (2013) and Feldmann et al. (2016).
