Taxonomy
Parthenope was named by Weber (1795) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Parthenopoidea, Parthenopidae, Parthenopinae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Parthenopidae by Rathbun (1918), Rathbun (1919), Van Straelen (1933), Morris and Collins (1991), Beschin et al. (1994), Beschin et al. (2006) and Beschin et al. (2016); and to Parthenopinae by Quayle and Collins (1981), Müller (1984), Karasawa (1993), Collins et al. (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Luque et al. (2017) and Schweitzer et al. (2020).
