Eocranothrips samlandi was named by Schliephake (1999). Its type specimen is Nr. 776 and is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Hoffeins/Deutsches Entomologische Institut collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.
