Taxonomy
Pororaria was named by Glaessner (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u T Eo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 922,1259]. Its type is Pororaria eocenica.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Portunidae by Feldmann and Keys (1992) and Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); to Macropipidae by Karasawa et al. (2008) and Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Polybiinae by Feldmann et al. (1998) and Schweitzer et al. (2021).
