It was reranked as the infraclass Holocephalimorpha by Lund and Grogan (1997); it was misspelled as Holocephalimorpha by Lund and Grogan (2004), Goto and Okura (2004), Nelson (2006) and Long (2011).

It was assigned to Chondrichthyes by Lund and Grogan (1997) and Lund and Grogan (2004); and to Holocephali by Goto and Okura (2004), Nelson (2006) and Long (2011).
