Sandomingia was named by Rathbun (1919) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l]. Its type is Sandomingia yaquiensis.
It was assigned to Ocypodidae by Rathbun (1919); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Portunidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); to Podophthalmidae by Luque et al. (2017); and to Podophthalminae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2021).
