Stenochirus was named by Oppel (1861) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-l Sepkoski's reference number: 75]. It is not extant. Its type is Stenochirus mayeri.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Stenochiridae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Feldmann et al. (2016).
