Taxonomy
Locustopsis gyra was named by Zessin (1983). Its type specimen is Humboldt Museum LD 968, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Dobbertin, Mecklenburg (Zessin collection), which is in a Toarcian marine claystone in Germany.
