Styrioplax was named by Glaessner (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi]. It is not extant. Its type is Styrioplax exiguus.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhizopinae by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
