Withersella was named by Wright and Collins (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Withersella crepitans.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Carcineretidae by Collins (2002); and to Torynommidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2011) and Schweitzer et al. (2017).
