Woodbinax was named by Stenzel (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno]. It is not extant. Its type is Woodbinax texanus.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Carcineretidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); and to Xanthoidea by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
