Taxonomy
Ponopterix was named by Vršanský and Grimaldi (1999). Its type is Ponopterix axelrodi. It is the type genus of Ponopterixidae.
It was assigned to Dictyoptera by Kirejtshuk et al. (2014); to Ponopterixidae by Nel et al. (2014); and to Umenocoleidae by Vršanský and Grimaldi (1999), Vršanský (2003), Vršanský (2004), Bechly (2007), Lee (2016), Luo et al. (2022) and Luo et al. (2022).
It was assigned to Dictyoptera by Kirejtshuk et al. (2014); to Ponopterixidae by Nel et al. (2014); and to Umenocoleidae by Vršanský and Grimaldi (1999), Vršanský (2003), Vršanský (2004), Bechly (2007), Lee (2016), Luo et al. (2022) and Luo et al. (2022).
